Ruby – ADOPTED!

Ruby
Update 7/9/09! Ruby is being adopted by her foster family! Congratulations Jocelyn and Andy!
Ruby is a WONDERFUL dog. 7 years old, purebred Redbone Coonhound. She is a small redbone, weighing 50 pounds. She is not trained as a hunter. She is absolutely fantastic with children. Outside she is active and lets her nose lead her, but indoors she is very quiet and calm and likes to just cuddle up and sleep. She gets along great with other dogs, is house-trained and crate-trained. Ruby was born missing one eye. Her eyelid has been surgically closed. She is not bothered by it nor in any pain. Ruby is in a foster home in New Hampshire. She lives with 3 other dogs and is getting along well. Her foster Mom writes “Great dog. well-adjusted. eating well. drinking better. running fast; snuggling close. It is amazing that out of all of the dogs, the one with the disability is the one requiring the least care! She is VERY happy with whatever she chooses to do, and is directing herself more often than not. She is fabulous.” “Ruby adjusts to new situations in record time–seeing the other dogs’ behavior and acting accordingly. Inside the house, she acquiesces, but doesn’t cower. She is very comfortable snuggling her humans, and on rare occasion has snuggled the other Redbone. Outside, she loves to run and is very fast. She is very good at whatever she chooses to do. She sleeps very well. She asks to go out by going to the door. She thumps her tail when she is enthusiastic about something (and this dog has MAJOR joie de puppy vivre). In fact, if we weren’t told she was 7 years old, we would think her just a year or two at the most. She still has her girlish figure.” “After her initial feeling out the new situation, her appetite came back strong and hardy. But she doesn’t eat for sport like some dogs. If she is hungry, she will dine with verve. If not, perhaps an occasional soft snack, but not to kill time. She is not food-motivated. In fact, she needs little motivation to do the right thing. She just is a good girl and remarkably sweet. Ruby will do well with a calm home environment, and with at least one other dog with whom she can interact. Her new owners will be very lucky people indeed.”
